samsung-watch
We ran across a tweet by Samsung UK official account teasing Twitteratis to find out what the company will announce on its UNPACKED Episode 2 event, and our curiosity naturally got the better of us. Well, the link in the tweet opened up Samsung UK’s official Facebook page, where they simply mention that they “will reveal something new and groundbreaking to the world. We’re giving you the chance to win it as soon as it’s released!”
Of course, we don’t need to be detectives to find out what exactly Samsung is talking about and what it is giving away. Still want a hint? Okay, the “new and groundbreaking” thing is Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Gear smartwatch, and it looks like one lucky person in the UK will be able to get its hands on one on the same day as it is unveiled.
gear-facebook-win
The procedure is simple – just hit the source link and like Samsung UK’s page to enter the lucky draw, enter your contact details, then wait till September 4th to find out if you’re the one who beats everyone to lay claim to that smartwatch. Too bad you’ll have to be a UK resident and above 18, but hey, at least some people have the chance.
Well, what are you waiting for? Go like that page.

Alright, it seems it is time for the real and concrete leaks that we all wanted regarding Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Gear smartwatch – leakster extraordinaire evleaks has leaked the screenshot of the official companion app of the smartwatch, which users will use on their Galaxy smartphone to control various aspects of the watch.
Right off the bat, the screenshot confirms that the model number of Gear will be SM-V700. The app – called Gear manager – will give the option to pair your phone with the watch automatically via NFC or via manual Bluetooth setup before letting you set personal settings on the watch. There are options for Clocks, My apps, Samsung Apps, Find my watch, Settings, and Help, which should do exactly what the names suggest, though we’ll naturally need to wait for the app to be officially released before finding out what all the options do (especially interesting will be the apps that the watch will run).

There are only five days to go before the Galaxy Gear becomes official, and we wouldn’t be surprised if all the details leak out in the few days that are left. Anyone excited yet, or does that 10 hour battery life still scare you?

GPS

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a network of about 30 satellites orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 20,000 km. The system was originally developed by the US government for military navigation but now anyone with a GPS device, be it a SatNav, mobile phone or handheld GPS unit, can receive the radio signals that the satellites broadcast.
Wherever you are on the planet, at least four GPS satellites are ‘visible’ at any time. Each one transmits information about its position and the current time at regular intervals. These signals, travelling at the speed of light, are intercepted by your GPS receiver, which calculates how far away each satellite is based on how long it took for the messages to arrive.
Once it has information on how far away at least three satellites are, your GPS receiver can pinpoint your location using a process called trilateration.

Trilateration

Imagine you are standing somewhere on Earth with three satellites in the sky above you. If you know how far away you are from satellite A, then you know you must be located somewhere on the red circle. If you do the same for satellites B and C, you can work out your location by seeing where the three circles intersect. This is just what your GPS receiver does, although it uses overlapping spheres rather than circles.
The more satellites there are above the horizon the more accurately your GPS unit can determine where you are.

GPS and Relativity

GPS satellites have atomic clocks on board to keep accurate time. General and Special Relativity however predict that differences will appear between these clocks and an identical clock on Earth.
General Relativity predicts that time will appear to run slower under stronger gravitational pull – the clocks on board the satellites will therefore seem to run faster than a clock on Earth.
Furthermore, Special Relativity predicts that because the satellites’ clocks are moving relative to a clock on Earth, they will appear to run slower.
The whole GPS network has to make allowances for these effects –  proof that Relativity has a real impact.

Facebook, which offers a bounty of US$500 or more to anyone who discovers a bug in its system, has come under fire for refusing to reward an out-of-work Palestinian programmer who reported a vulnerability that let people post to strangers' accounts without authorization.
The programmer, Khalil Shreateh, resorted to hacking Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's page to prove his point after the company first ignored, then repeatedly dismissed, his report.
Facebook decided against paying Shreateh the bounty, explaining on Hacker News that this was because Shreateh had violated its terms of service by posting items to the Facebook pages of users he should not have had access to.
Shreateh later posted the sequence of events on his blog, triggering outrage and expressions of support from most commenters.
"I am surprised [Facebook is] refusing to pay the bounty," Rob Ragan, senior security associate at Bishop Fox, told TechNewsWorld. "If they choose not to recognize the submission because the researcher went public with this information, then that is their prerogative. The entire situation seems like an opportunity to improve the process."
Facebook declined to provide further details.
A Memorable Facebook Experience
Shreateh notified Facebook through the company's White Hat pages of the bug, which let any Facebook user post to other Facebook users' timelines even if they were not friends.
A member of Facebook Security responded, only to say he received an error message when he clicked on the link Shreateh had sent in.
Shreateh then emailed the Facebook team again, notifying them of the vulnerability and providing a link to the page of Sarah Goodin -- the first woman to join Facebook way back when -- on which he had filed a post without her authorization to prove his point.
Facebook apparently maintained that there was no bug, so Shreateh made a post on Zuckerberg's own timeline and sent a link to that over to the Facebook team.
Minutes later, Facebook security engineer Ola Okelola requested details of the exploit. Shreateh complied, and Facebook then disabled his account.
When Shreateh asked Facebook to reactivate his account, he was told it had been disabled as a precaution. He was also told his report did not have enough technical information for Facebook to act on it and that he would not be paid the bounty because he had violated the company's ToS. Facebook also re-enabled his account.

Power Scheduler" is a free software for Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 users which allows you to schedule shutdown, restart, hibernate and lock operations at any desired time.

t comes with a very simple and easy to understand interface. You just need to select desired power operation from the "Select Shutdown Mode" drop-down box and then set the desired time using "Action Time" section and at last click on "Set Timer" button. As soon as you click on "Set Timer" button, it'll ask you to set a password for scheduled task so that no one else can cancel your task.

s soon as the action time comes, the program automatically performs the scheduled power operation.
You can cancel the scheduled task at any time by clicking on "Cancel" button. It'll ask for the password which you set at the time of task creation, enter the correct password and it'll cancel the task.

USb botable

Many times we need to install fresh Windows or a Linux distro in a computer system but we don't have access to a working CD/DVD drive. Sometimes the computer system doesn't have any CD/DVD drive attached or sometimes the drive might be faulty or can't read your setup disc.
Then what to do in such situation? How to install Windows or Linux in the system without a working CD/DVD drive? Here comes bootable USB drive to the rescue!
You can create a bootable USB drive to install Windows or Linux in your computer system. It'll allow you to boot your system using it and then it'll run the OS setup just like you do with a CD or DVD.
There are also many other benefits in installing Windows or Linux using a bootable USB drive. It makes the OS installation faster as it takes less time in copying the files from USB to hard disk compared to a CD/DVD. Also there is no need to worry about scratches or "can't copy files" error messages in case of a USB drive which we always do while installing the OS using a CD or DVD.
But creating a bootable USB drive is not very easy task. You need to run a few commands and need to follow a few steps to make it working. That's why we have shared lots of free software in past to create bootable USB drives to install Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2003, Server 2008 and many Linux distro like Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint, Mandriva, etc.
For your convenience, we are putting all these free tools together in this single place so that you don't need to waste your time in searching for them.
So without wasting time lets share all freeware which help you in creating bootable USB drives to install Windows and Linux:

A Bootable USB:

We told you earlier that Microsoft has released the final RTM version of its latest Office suite "Office 2013" which is available for download to TechNet, MSDN and a few other selected subscribers.
Microsoft is also providing an absolutely free 60-day trial version of Office 2013 RTM to public which can be downloaded using following topic:
Download Free Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus 60-Day Trial Version
This trial version is a fully functional copy. There are no restrictions or feature limitations. Many of you might be already using it in your computer systems.
But there is one small issue! Since its a trial version, it'll expire after 60 days of use and then you'll need to purchase the full version if you wish to continue using it. Currently final version of Office 2013 is not available for download to public but it'll be released very soon most probably in the end of this month or first week of February as mentioned here. Microsoft has already started providing it to a few selected groups of people such as Microsoft home use program, etc. Microsoft is also providing a big discount for these groups and you can download RTM version of Office 2013 in just $9.95 if you have the subscription. But that's another story.
What will you do when the trial version of your Office 2013 expires? If you have purchased the full license or if you are planning to purchase the license in coming days, you'll need to uninstall existing trial version of Office 2013 and then reinstall the new purchased Office 2013 full version in your computer. Right? Actually wrong.
Did you know Microsoft Office 2013 comes with a useful feature to convert your trial version into full version? Yep, if you are using the trial version of Office 2013 and if you purchase a genuine license of Office 2013 full version, you'll just need to enter your new product key in existing Office 2013 suite and it'll automatically convert the trial version into full version within a few seconds.
Today in this tutorial, we'll tell you how to use this built-in feature and how to convert trial version of Office 2013 into full version without uninstalling and reinstalling the whole Office suite:
1. First launch any Office 2013 program such as Microsoft Word and then click on FILE menu. It'll open Office settings page.
2. Now click on Account tab and you'll see information about the trial version installed in your system.
3. Click on License Options -> Convert to Full.

 4. It'll ask you to buy a new product key of final version of Office 2013 or enter the product key if you have already purchased it. Just click on "Enter Key" button:

 5. Now enter your purchased product key. It'll validate the key and will show a correct sign if your product key is valid. After validation click on "Install" button.
 6. That's it. Within a few seconds, your trial version of Office 2013 will be converted into full version. The account page in Office 2013 will show that your Office 2013 product has been activated successfully:
That's it. So you'll not need to uninstall and reinstall Office 2013 in your system if you decide to purchase the full version in future. You can change the trial version into full within a few seconds

A language teacher called Thérèse was explaining to her class that in French nouns are labelled as either masculine or feminine.  This was news to the class, as in English, nouns have little or no concept of gender.  Thérèse explained,
'House, in French, is feminine -- 'la maison.'
'Pencil, in French, is masculine -- 'le crayon.'
One puzzled student asked please miss, 'Which gender is a computer?' .
Thérèse did not know whether it was le computer or la computer, moreover the word wasn't in her French dictionary. So for fun she split the class into two groups appropriately enough, by gender, and asked them to decide whether 'computer' should be a masculine or feminine noun.
Men's Computer Gender Group - La computerThe men's group decided that computers should definitely be female: la computer' because:
  1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
  2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
  3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for possible later retrieval.
  4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your pay cheque (check) on accessories for it.
Women's Computer Gender Group - Le computerThe women's group, however, concluded that computers should be male: 'le computer' .  Here is the ladies reasoning:
  1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on.
  2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves.
  3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem.
  4. As soon as you commit to one, you realise that if you' d waited a little longer, you could have got a better model.
Who do you think won the gender argument?
Should it be Le Computer or La Computer?

5 More Reasons Why Computers Must Be Female

  1. They are impossible to figure out.
  2. They break down for no apparent reason.
  3. They communicate only with each other, and in their own particular language.
  4. They have motherboards inside them.
  5. Sometimes it's difficult to find their on/off button.

Many people simply go to the retail store and get sold to when it comes to computing equipment. You would be very surprised how easily you can pick up all the core components and assemble yourself or get a friend or family member in the know to do it for you. All the top brand PC manufacturers such as IBM, HP and Fujitsu Siemens offer you pre built PC's, Dell on the other hand will take your order and build to your own style. Off them all Dell will come across more flexible with the specification, however, building your own will not only save you many dollars but make you aware of just how much profit these guys are making

What are the core components of a PC?
Well let's start with the basics you will need no matter how high or low spec you want the computer:
PC Case - Motherboard - Processor Chip - Fan - Power Supply - Hard Disk Drive - Memory (RAM) - Power Cord - Keyboard & Mouse - Graphics Card (may come on the motherboard) - Sound Card (if you require one). All these components will get you started. Remember build the PC to your own needs. Gaming PC's generally need a good graphics card with 3d capabilities while general office PC's do not need such powerful cards.
Processors:
Intel and AMD are the key players when it comes to processors, Intel offer the Pentium chip or Celeron while AMD have their range such as the AMD Athlon and Sempron. While both companies have their benefits Intel's being that they are the largest selling globally but AMD seem to have the faster processing capabilities. When looking at the processors think sensibly and ask yourself do you really need the latest and greatest or would you notice the difference in point two of a processor e.g. 3GHz compared to 2.8GHz.
Remember keep the cost down, basic components such as the PC case comes in a number of different styles such as Mini Tower, Desktop. Choose what suits you. RAM (memory) will depend on what you plan to do, some games and simulators require large amounts of memory so check before you buy, and the graphics card will also depend on your PC plans. If you are generally using the PC for home and Internet browsing remember to purchase a modem or if you are planning broadband arrange with the installer and get yourself on the waiting list.
Building the PC
Building a PC is not as daunting as it seems. If you have not attempted to do this before it is a good idea to have supervision. Some of the components such as the memory need careful handling due to static electricity. Get an anti static wrist strap to protect the components, they cost very little and could save you a lot of money. There are plenty of cheap books out there to guide you in assembly but you will also find free articles online with diagrams for assembly.
Software:
Hardware is one thing but you also need the software such as the operating system and anti virus software for protection against viruses. Depending on what you want and what you are used to using before you can get free operating system such as Linux. Most of us are used to Microsoft Windows but you will require a licence to use this software. You may also need some office software such as Microsoft Office XP or 2003 standard or Professional edition. The anti virus software is essential and Norton's or McAfee are some of the better known brands. There are also free downloads that will help protect your PC such as Stinger and Ad-Ware.
In Brief:
Building your very own PC gives you the flexibility that most manufacturers do not. The price is greatly reduced if you can assemble yourself and it will give you a great insight to all the components and key terms in computing. You will be surprised to find that not all is as technical as first seems.
Some quick notes: Do not forget the following: Modem - Make sure you also have enough USB ports for external devices such as a printer or digital camera. Always back your files up such externally on the off chance you have a problem with the Hard Disk Drive and your files are not transferable, something like a usb keyring would be ideal.

if you are a Mozilla Firefox user and also love spending your time on Facebook, here is an excellent news for you. Yesterday we told you that the latest Firefox version comes with a new feature called "Social API" which will help you in accessing social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, etc right from your favorite web browser Mozilla Firefox without opening the social networking websites in the browser. This new feature will add social network buttons and sidebars in Firefox window so that you can chat with your friends, check messages, notifications, etc quickly and easily.
Currently the feature is new and only Facebook integration has been implemented in the latest Firefox version but in future more social networks will be added.
If you are not a social network fan, don't worry. This feature it not enabled by default. It gets automatically enabled if you access these social networking websites frequently.
If you don't want to wait and want to turn the feature on immediately, you can do it using following simple steps:
 1. First go to following official Facebook URL to turn Facebook Messenger on in Firefox:

Turn Facebook Messenger On in Firefox

2. As soon as you turn the Facebook messenger on, it'll add Facebook buttons in Firefox toolbar and Facebook chat sidebar in right-side of Firefox window as shown in following screenshot:

3. The Facebook buttons in Firefox toolbar will help you in checking your notifications, messages, etc without going to actual Facebook website.
Facebook chat sidebar will allow you chat with your friends just like you do in original Facebook website.
4. You can disable the Facebook chat sidebar by clicking on Facebook button present in Firefox toolbar and unchecking "Show sidebar" option.

If you don't like the Facebook messenger and want to disable it, you can click on "Remove from Firefox" option using Facebook button in toolbar.
UPDATE: You can also use a built-in tweak to enable and activate the whole social API in Firefox. Just follow these simple steps:
1. Open Firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It'll confirm, click on I'll be careful, I promise! button.
2. Now type social in the Filter box and look for following boolean keys:
social.active
social.enabled
3. Both keys would be set to false. Double-click or right-click on the keys and select "Toggle". It'll set their values to true.
That's it. It'll enable the new social API in Firefox. Thanks to our reader "ankur" for this tip...
